Borderlands, a new FPS joined together with RPG elements.

I honestly didn't know anything about this game, so them releasing the cover art to get some press was really smart. At first looks Borderlands realy reminds me of Fallout 3, you have a first person shooter with RPG elements in a waste land, but that might be where the similarites stop. While Game Informer touts the game as the combination of "Mad Max" and "Diablo." Borderlands adds some key differences in vehicular combat, co-op multiplayer, character classes (effectively) and a ton of randomization.

The things that really interest me is the randomization and the co-op. There were many times that I wished for more weapons in Fallout 3, as I spent the majority of the game doing head shots with the hunting rifle. Borderlands is boasts about a content generation system that applies to the weapons, maps and maybe even the baddies. This will provide a plethora of weapons to choose from, making it possible to always find new and interesting loot.

Also the ability for you to jump into your friends game at any time seems awesome. Imagine going Mad Max on the wasteland with 3 other of your buddies. The game provides four characters to choose from, that each have their own abilities and focuses.

  • Roland: He is a former military man and works as a healer or cleric of the group
  • Lilith: She became a "Sirens" which means she is more powerful then normal humans. This ability provides a mage like class.
  • Mordecai: Is a lone wolf sniper, his long range makes him the nuker.
  • Brick: As his name might imply functions as the tank, he is a large character that is proficient in melee combat. AKA He likes to hit things with his fist.
